After converting the basement into an ADU in 2017, VELOCIPEDE was invited back for an extensive remodel of the main level of this 1959 mid century modern house in northeast Seattle. By changing a bearing wall to a beam, the kitchen gained a crucial foot of width. Solid walls enclosing the stair were opened to admit daylight. A large picture window was shifted to better frame the view of Lake Washington.
The kitchen received all new appliances, countertops, custom cabinets, and lighting. Both bathrooms were updated with new fixtures and finishes, and the master bathroom was rearranged to make better use of its cramped footprint. The architects worked with the homeowners to carefully select the colors, patterns, and sheens of each surface for this design.
